Zoe Lonergan has lived a life of polarities. Growing up outside a rural Australian town, her parents were hippies; one a science major, the other a petite American from San Francisco with pink hair and a strong accent.

One of three sisters, Zoe spent long hours building bales of hay into cubbies, swimming in creeks with horses and searching through the treasures of abandoned shearing sheds, rusted silos and farmhouses that had been left to splinter away into the earth.

As a child, Zoe visited the city where her parents met. She was taken by the rolling hills of San Francisco; colourful houses dotted the landscape like sprinkles on a cake. ‘I felt a connection to the city and knew that one day I’d return,’ Zoe explains.

Twenty years later, Zoe found herself back in The Bay. She cut her teeth as a food photographer and stylist in a San Francisco test kitchen. Her peers were the best in the business; award winning creatives and Michelin-starred chefs. She had access to prop houses piled high with teetering treasures. It was here that she discovered her own style.

Photography has taken Zoe around the world more than once; shooting campaigns for Airbnb, Intel, Uber Eats and Dropbox Australia. She has photographed Pharrell Williams, Arnold Schwarzenegger and celebrity chefs like Tyler Florence and Master Chef’s Reece Hignell.

Zoe currently resides in Newcastle, Australia. Her work is the product of both worlds; cosmopolitan colours and composition, integrated with the organic order of nature. She likes to show that there can be harmony in dichotomy.
